Dr Eilya Torshizian
Eilya is the Director of Principal Economics. Eilya brings to the projects a unique combination of knowledge, experience, strong leadership and management skills. Eilya is experienced in managing large teams of applied researchers and has led a wide range of high-profile infrastructure projects in New Zealand.
Eugene Isack
Eugene has over a decade experience in the economics and planning consulting and is experienced in data analysis and transport and economic modelling, with specialised skills in geographic information systems (GIS), big data analysis, and is a registered Statistics IDI researcher.
Alina Fehling
Alina is experienced in data analysis and is interested in welfare, inequality and trade topics.
Ruyi Jia
Ruyi is specialised in economic modelling and data analysis, with a keen interest in advancing the energy sector in New Zealand.
Phil Donovan
Phil has over a decade consulting experience in the areas of transport, planning and economics. He is experienced in data analysis and a range of modelling, with specialised skills in programming and reproducible analysis with tools such as R, Python, SQL, Git(Hub), Docker, big data.
Prof. Robert MacCulloch
Robert MacCulloch holds the Matthew S. Abel Chair of Macroeconomics at Auckland University. He is a native of New Zealand and working at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand before completing his PhD in Economics at Oxford University in the UK.

About you
Preferably you have a first-class honours degree or higher qualification in Economics, Statistics, or related studies. We prioritise experienced candidates, with a minimum of five years relevant experience working in local or central government or consulting firms.

Principal Economics is multi-disciplinary consultancy providing evidence-based decision support for public and private clients. We pride ourselves in, using principles of Economics to provide advice on a wide range of topical issues and working in an adhocracy and transparent organisational culture with supportive colleagues.
We have been working on a range of important topics around infrastructure, housing, social policy, climate change, and disruptive technologies (amongst other topics).
We have a flat organisation chart. Each project is led by our Directors and is supported by our economists.
Qualifications and experience
We prioritise experienced candidates, with a minimum of five years relevant experience working in local or central government or consulting firms. Preferably you hold a postgraduate degree or higher qualification in Economics, Finance, or related studies.

We understand the importance of work/life balance and offer flexible working arrangements. We will provide our employees with access to our gym. Our hybrid working model means we expect most people to combine coming into the office with working remotely, either from home or elsewhere. We are encouraging a 60:40 split either way, with a full-time colleague typically being in the office 2-3 days a week. How you split your time will depend on the meetings in your diary, projects you may be working on, the time of the role etc - we want you to be able to embrace the flexibility while thinking about what works best for the company, your clients and you.
